about
A small, imperfect thing--
This is for my dear friend EVW. I have so many words in my head about her— but I will lead with— the way she wore Bjork nubs to high school debate meets. The seasons she worked at The Stanley Hotel and on my visit there-- we found no haunts together, but took a picture in the large ballroom mirror and clutched our overcoats next to an empty, gothic swimming pool.
Inspired by both The Shining (particularly Wendy) and the poem "There are Days" by Kate Baer
I went to the woods and spent this afternoon using tape for the first time in my production methods (I write methods like I have any) guitar loops, a tired Strega bass drone undercurrent. My voice.
Thank you. I appreciate you.
lyrics
How they climb and climb
On our backs and shoulders
How they self actualize
At the expense of your heart and mine
Checking off their list
Keeping up at appearances
How they rise and rise
While we stay behind
Closing the loop with our daughters
(ahhh, ahhh, ahhh)
